An 8-inch round layer cake about 4 inches tall serves about 16 party slices or 25 wedding slices; a 9×13 sheet cake serves about 39 party slices. Our calculator divides the top area of the cake by the slice footprint: 1½ × 2 in for a party slice, 1 × 2 in for a wedding slice.
Cake servings calculator
For a layer cake about 4 in tall.
| Cake (about 4 in tall) | Party slices (1½×2 in) | Wedding slices (1×2 in) |
|---|---|---|
| 6-inch round | 9 | 14 |
| 8-inch round | 16 | 25 |
| 9-inch round | 21 | 31 |
| 10-inch round | 26 | 39 |
| 12-inch round | 37 | 56 |
| 14-inch round | 51 | 76 |
| 8×8-inch | 21 | 32 |
| 9×9-inch | 27 | 40 |
| 9×13-inch | 39 | 58 |
| 12×18-inch | 72 | 108 |
Method: top area ÷ slice footprint, rounded down. Bakery charts (for example Wilton’s) often list a few more slices for the same pan because they cut in rings; treat our numbers as a safe minimum. A single-layer cake about 2 inches tall gives more generous, wider slices, so plan about half as many servings.
